How many calories does a teenager need a day?

Teens aged 14 to 18 need roughly 1,800 to 2,400 calories a day for girls and 2,000 to 3,200 for boys, depending on activity. Younger adolescents aged 9 to 13 need about 1,400 to 2,200 for girls and 1,600 to 2,600 for boys. Active teens fall at the higher end of each range, and these calories should come mainly from nutrient-dense foods to carry the vitamins and minerals growth requires.

Teens follow the same macronutrient distribution ranges as adults, scaled to their larger calorie needs.
